General information
Frangokastello is located in prefecture of Chania, in the province of Sfakia, in Southern Crete. The distance from Chora Sfakion is 14 km, from Chania 75 km, from Rethimno 65 km and from Heraklion 140 km. You get access to the region through a wild and unique beauty road network. The visitor that will walk in the wild landscape of Southern Crete, seeking traces and marks from yesterday will only meet the Castle! Many beaches and gorges from natural beauty are to discover! Combine therefore your vacation with the natural exercise, but also the amusement with certain events in the area and interesting destinations!
The beaches of the village “Batalos”, “Mavro Nero”, “Xondros Bolakas”, “Iliggas”, “Frangokastello”, “Orthi Amos” and “Kritama”, promise you each day something different!
In distance of 10 kilometres, you have access to the beaches “Agia Marina” and “Laki”, that finds at the neighbouring coasts of ancient Apollonias. In distance of 12 kilometres you can also find the beach “Koytelos”.
The gorges of Kallikrati, Asfendoy, Improy and Aradainas are a challenge.
Acquaintance of course, is the National Forest and gorge of Samarias,
ending in Agia Roumeli.
From the harbour of Chora Sfakion are daily small ferry boats to Loutro, Agia Roumeli and Palaiochora. From here you can also go to visit the most southern point of Europe, known as the island of Kalypsos from the “Odyssey”, Gaydos!
